Kimberly Whitney, LCSW
I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Studies from the University of North Texas. Then I received my Master of Social Work from The University of Texas at Arlington. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with the State of Texas.
In 2017, I established Athena Counseling Services, PLLC to provide individual, couple, family and group counseling services. After many years of various clinical backgrounds from a community social worker working with people diagnosed with severe mental illness to a crisis hospital setting and developing a partial hospitalization program, I have had the honor of serving a diverse population of individuals. Along with my hospital background, I have worked as a hospice social worker.
My therapeutic style evolved along with my experience and being engaged in therapeutic relationships with clients. I use the Enneagram in my practice to help individuals find their authentic self. My therapy style is a eclectic mix of Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT); experiential, mindfulness, interpersonal, physcodynamic and client driven. I work with a wide range of challenges consisting of past traumas, anxiety, depression, relationship turmoil, thinking errors, stress, unresolved grief and overall interpersonal conflict. My various clinical settings have helped me develop into a well informed mental health provider.
Over my career I have been fortunate to hear individuals personal stories and how these narratives have changed, impacted and healed, not only the individual but all who are connected to them. I continue to believe that it is a honor to foster growth and empower the client in their daily lives which empowers them to change and heal from their experiences.
